After
failures, TEPCO to use special cement to prevent
contaminated water leaks

The operator of the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant plans to
fill in trenches on the coastline in yet another attempt to
prevent highly contaminated water from pouring into the sea.
Under the plan, approved by the Nuclear Regulation Authority on
Nov. 21, Tokyo Electric Power Co. will inject a special cement
mixture into the seaside trenches of the No. 2 and No. 3
reactors while pumping up radioactive water accumulating in
them.
The special mixture does not absorb water so it can spread more
easily along the bottom of the trenches, displacing the tainted
water.
The new method will allow radioactive materials to remain in the
surrounding soil, but TEPCO decided to employ the technique
because it puts high priority on preventing massive amounts of
highly contaminated water from leaking into the ocean.
This spring, TEPCO tried to stop the water influx at the trench
for the No. 2 reactor by freezing the junction of the turbine
building and the trench, but the operation was tough-going.
The company then attempted to stop the water inflow with a
cement mixture, but was unable to do so completely.

The present invention relates to a method for constructing a
semi-basement for storing radioactive waste and, more
particularly, to a method for constructing a semi-basement for
storing radioactive waste, capable of performing an impervious
construction and preventing the diffusion of radioactive
materials by installing hydrophobic limestone powder, a
radiation shielding sheet, and a waterproof panel between the
ground and a wall while constructing an upper structure on the
ground after constructing the wall and base of a silo under the
ground by excavating the ground. Also, the structure is applied
to a base rock, a soft ground, a sand ground, and a subterranean
water ground. An impact buffering space part is separated from
the wall installed under the ground with a preset distance. An
earthquake-proof structure is designed and the diffusion of the
radiation is prevented in an emergency situation by filling the
impact buffering space part with cement mortar and curing the
cement mortar with the impact buffering materials in the
emergency situation when the impact buffering space part is
filled with impact buffering materials.

The invention relates to building, namely to the development of
a process for radiation-chemical improving of performance
characteristics of building materials based on cement brick. The
process comprises penetration treatment of cement brick by the
mixture of organosilicon monomer -
vinylheptamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and polymethylsiloxane liquid
with their further copolymerization in concrete volume under
action of accelerated electrons. The process provides the
increasing of hydrophobic and strength properties of cement
brick.

Plugging fluid for plugging a zone of a subterranean formation
adjacent to a drill hole, especially an oil drill hole, said
fluid consisting of a hydrophobic liquid containing a solid
silicate or a solid metasilicate, a clay, and a hydraulic
cement. Process for plugging a zone of a subterranean formation
adjacent to a drill hole, in which said plugging fluid is
transported up to said zone while avoiding any contact with
water, and in said zone the plugging fluid is brought into
contact with an aqueous solution containing cations chosen from
alkali metal cations and alkaline-earth metal cations, by means
of which a flash setting of the plugging fluid occurs. The
process makes it possible to seal the zones of loss of
circulation, to permanently isolate zones of a subterranean
formation adjacent to a well, surrounding a well, and to put an
end to transverse flows. It also makes it possible to block or
close up the drilling wells that must be abandoned.

PURPOSE:To obtain a sound solidified body with high waterproof
by performing solidification after the operation for painting
the hydrophobic substance in a solidification vessel is
performed. CONSTITUTION:After the moisture of waste resin is
adjusted from a waste resin tank 1 through a dehydrater 2, it is
introduced into a kneading tank 6 with a mixer 7. In a
solidification system, a specified quantity of cement from a
cement silo 3 is introduced into the kneading tank 6, a
specified quantity of water from a kneading water tank 4 is put
therein and a specified quantity of a water reducing agent and
the like from an addition agent hopper 5 is introduced therein.
A solidification vessel 11, for instance, is previously treated
in a hydrophobic compound tank in which silicone grease of a low
coefficient of viscosity and the like and mixture of grease are
put. The previous disposal is performed by painting on the inner
wall face of the tank 11 through spray drive power 9 and a spray
nozzle 10. After the painting for about 30 minutes the vessel 11
is carried to the lower part of the kneading tank 6, radioactive
waste resin homogeneously kneaded is charged therein from the
kneading tank 6 to form a solidified body 12.
