Abstract --
In 1927, during the fifth Solvay Conference, Einstein and Bohr described a double-slit interferometer with a “movable slit” that can detect the momentum recoil of one photon. Their debate centered on this Gedankenexperiment has provided profound insights into the central concepts of quantum mechanics. Despite many efforts to reproduce this conceptual experiment, a linear-optical version with a movable, quantum-limited slit and tunable momentum width remained challenging. Here, we report a realization of the Einstein-Bohr interferometer using a single atom in an optical tweezer, which is cooled to the motional ground state in three dimensions such that its momentum uncertainty is comparable to that of a single photon. We design an interferometric configuration where the single atom serves as an ultralight, quantum-limit beam splitter that is momentum entangled with the input photon. By varying the trap depth of the optical tweezer, we dynamically tune the atom’s intrinsic momentum uncertainty, thus enabling the observation of a gradual shift in the visibility of single-photon interference. The interferometer also allows us to distinguish the classical noise caused by atom heating from the quantum-limited noise due to the momentum transfer, illustrating a quantum-to-classical transition.

Grasshoppers seamlessly alternate between flapping and gliding, adapting to changing conditions and conserving energy. This study examines the hindwings of the Schistocerca americana grasshoppers and determines the key elements of the wing features that can enable insect-scale flyers to use gliding as a mode of flight. Wing-specific elements include planform shape, camber profile and corrugation patterns. The study begins with a morphological study of S. americana hindwings and characterizes their aerodynamics through water channel experiments of grasshopper-inspired wing models. We then design, fabricate and evaluate, through flight testing, a grasshopper-inspired glider. Results reveal that while a corrugated wing model has the highest aerodynamic efficiency at low angles of attack, its aerodynamic efficiency decreases at higher angles of attack. In contrast, the glider with the wing model that captures the wing planform shape and has a simplified camber profile exhibits consistent aerodynamic efficiency across a wide range of angles of attack and repeatable flight performance. Therefore, we have identified that the wing planform and a simplified camber profile are key parameters when designing insect-scale gliding robots. The results lay the groundwork for advancing insect-scale robots that exploit gliding flight, offering new opportunities for untethered locomotion with low energy expenditure.

In EMANIM, you can set up two waves (Wave 1 and Wave 2) with selectable polarization (horizontal, vertical, left circular or right circular) and you can show their superposition (Wave 1 + Wave 2). The scene can be rotated and zoomed (see Help menu to learn how). The View menu contains a few predefined camera angles for easier viewing of the scene, and you can also switch to full screen mode. It also contains an option to generate a permalink to EMANIM with the current wave parameters preset so you can save it for yourself or for sharing it. Exploring the Benefits of Cranberries in Dentistry: A Comprehensive Review

Abstract -- Objectives:
Despite the increasing scientific evidence regarding the application of Cranberries in dentistry, a comprehensive understanding of their potential benefits, active constituents, and mechanisms of action remains lacking. Consequently, this narrative review aims to meticulously analyze and consolidate the existing scientific literature on the utilization of Cranberries for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases. Materials and Methods: Electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science) were searched up to October 2025. This review included in vitro, in vivo, and clinical research studies. A two-phase selection process was carried out. In phase 1, two reviewers independently screened titles and abstracts to identify potentially eligible studies. In phase 2, the same reviewers performed the full-text assessments of the eligible articles. Results: Among the 93 eligible articles, most assessed Cranberry use in Cariology (n = 28) and Periodontics (n = 26). Biofilm and microbial virulence factors (n = 46) were the most frequently studied topics. Cranberry extract (n = 32) and high-molecular-weight non-dialyzable material (NDM) (n = 23) were the most evaluated Cranberry fractions. Overall, Cranberry-derived compounds were identified as non-toxic and demonstrated promising antimicrobial activity against dental caries-related microorganisms in preclinical studies (n = 20). Regarding periodontal and peri-implant diseases, Cranberry demonstrated host immune modulator effects, counteracting the inflammatory and destructive mechanisms (n = 8). Additionally, Cranberries presented benefits in reducing the inflammation associated with periodontal disease and temporal mandibular joint lesions (n = 1). Regarding dental erosion, Cranberry inhibited dentin erosion (n = 4); however, no effect was observed on enamel lesions (n = 2). As an antioxidant agent, Cranberry showed effectiveness in preventing dental erosion (n = 18). Beyond that, Cranberry neutralized reactive oxygen species generated immediately after dental bleaching, enhancing bond strength (n = 2) and counteracting the oxygen ions formed on the tooth surface following bleaching procedures (n = 3). In osteoclastogenesis assays, A-type proanthocyanidins inhibited bone resorption (n = 1). In osteogenic analysis, preservation of hydroxycarbonate apatite deposition and an increase in early and late osteogenic markers were observed (n = 2). Conclusions: Cranberry bioactive compounds, both individually and synergistically, exhibit substantial potential for diverse applications within dentistry, particularly in the prevention and management of oral and maxillofacial diseases. This review provides insights into the plausible incorporation of Cranberries in contemporary dentistry, offering readers an informed perspective on their potential role.
Dental Erosion and Antioxidant Effect
Cranberry’s role as an antioxidant and in dental erosion prevention was also evaluated (n = 18), with all studies showing in vitro results [7,89,90,96,97,101,103]. As depicted in Figure 5b, Cranberry inhibited dentin erosion [7,56,69] but had limited effects on enamel erosion [22,41]. In vitro findings indicate that Cranberries neutralized residual oxygen radicals following dental bleaching, enhancing adhesive bond strength [55,108]. This is attributed to oligomeric proanthocyanidins, which donate electrons to the bleached surface and promote radical scavenging through epicatechin–gallic acid esterification [55,108]. These proanthocyanidins also supported dentin remineralization and inhibited collagen degradation, thus reducing structural wear [7,25,41]. Nevertheless, the low pH of Cranberry extracts may counteract their protective effects on enamel [22]. Overall, Cranberries’ antioxidant capacity and MMP inhibition make them a promising additive for adhesives and restorative materials [69]...
Overview on the Use of Cranberries in Dentistry
Collectively, the reviewed evidence demonstrates that Cranberry possesses multifaceted therapeutic properties, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Among various Cranberry fraction types, the Cranberry extract (n = 32) and high-molecular-weight non-dialyzable material (NDM) were the most studied (n = 23). These components were found to exert significant effects, particularly on oral pathogens such as Streptococcus mutans and periodontopathogenic bacteria. Other fractions, including proanthocyanidins and flavonols, have also shown promise in inhibiting biofilm formation and bacterial coaggregation, crucial factors in dental caries and periodontitis development.
Additionally, proanthocyanidins and flavonols demonstrated specific efficacy against Streptococcus mutans, a key player in dental caries, by inhibiting acid production and biofilm development on tooth surfaces. Cranberry fractions presented inhibitory effects on glycosyltransferase activity, essential for glucan synthesis, and on F-ATPase activity, reducing acidogenicity and cariogenic potential. Concerning periodontopathogenic bacteria, the high-molecular-weight constituents of Cranberries effectively inhibited biofilm formation and bacterial adherence related to periodontal disease. Studies revealed that Cranberry extracts reduced plaque index and gingival inflammation in clinical trials, suggesting their potential as a therapeutic agent in periodontal disease management. Cranberry extracts, particularly A-type proanthocyanidins, showed potential in promoting bone regeneration and inhibiting osteoclast activity. These findings suggest applications in treating periodontitis and promoting osseointegration in dental implants. Cranberry extract also demonstrated antifungal properties against Candida albicans, with potential applications in prosthetic dentistry. Incorporating Cranberry-derived proanthocyanidins into acrylic resins used in dental prostheses effectively reduced Candida colonization.
The anti-inflammatory effects of Cranberries were linked to their ability to suppress matrix metalloproteinase activity and inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory mediators. Moreover, its antioxidant properties were beneficial in preventing dentin erosion and enhancing the bond strength of dental materials after bleaching. Studies also revealed that Cranberry polyphenols, particularly proanthocyanidins, exhibited chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic effects by inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in oral cancer cell lines. These properties underscore Cranberry’s potential as a complementary therapeutic agent in oral cancer management... The incorporation of proanthocyanidins and NDM into oral care formulations could offer a natural, biocompatible alternative to conventional antimicrobials such as chlorhexidine. Moreover, the antioxidant and bond-strength-enhancing effects of Cranberry compounds could be leveraged to develop advanced adhesive and restorative systems with greater longevity. Overall, Cranberries hold great promise for advancing preventive and therapeutic strategies in dentistry, emphasizing a bio-based, non-toxic approach to oral health care...

The first really new type of compass since 1936.  In this video, I present a genuinely different approach to compass design — a liquid-free baseplate compass that uses induction (eddy-current) damping instead of fluid, meaning it can never develop bubbles, regardless of temperature or altitude.
Traditional land-navigation compasses rely on fluid damping to reduce needle wobble. Military compasses often use induction damping, but those designs require opaque metal dials and separate protractors — making them unsuitable for civilian baseplate navigation.
This video shows how a conductive metal ring placed around the compass needle can provide induction damping while keeping the baseplate transparent.
In controlled tests: An undamped needle took 1 minute 45 seconds to stop oscillating... The same needle with the damping ring settled in 4.1 seconds ... That’s a 96% reduction in settling time, with no liquid, no friction, and nothing touching the needle.
This isn’t new physics — eddy-current damping has been known since the 19th century — but applying it in this way to a baseplate compass appears not to have been done before.

Abstract --
Whereas principles of communicative efficiency and legal doctrine dictate that laws be comprehensible to the common world, empirical evidence suggests legal documents are largely incomprehensible to lawyers and laypeople alike. Here, a corpus analysis (n = 59) million words) first replicated and extended prior work revealing laws to contain strikingly higher rates of complex syntactic structures relative to six baseline genres of English. Next, two preregistered text generation experiments (n = 286) tested two leading hypotheses regarding how these complex structures enter into legal documents in the first place. In line with the magic spell hypothesis, we found people tasked with writing official laws wrote in a more convoluted manner than when tasked with writing unofficial legal texts of equivalent conceptual complexity. Contrary to the copy-and-edit hypothesis, we did not find evidence that people editing a legal document wrote in a more convoluted manner than when writing the same document from scratch. From a cognitive perspective, these results suggest law to be a rare exception to the general tendency in human language toward communicative efficiency. In particular, these findings indicate law’s complexity to be derived from its performativity, whereby low-frequency structures may be inserted to signal law’s authoritative, world-state-altering nature, at the cost of increased processing demands
on readers. From a law and policy perspective, these results suggest that the tension between the ubiquity and impenetrability of the law is not an inherent one, and that laws can be simplified without a loss or distortion of communicative content.

Instead, researchers use intact microfat tissue, preserving its natural cellular diversity and microenvironment.
The work was led by scientists from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and the Shanghai Institute for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, who describe the method as simpler, more scalable, and potentially more clinically relevant.
At the center of the approach is what the team calls reaggregated microfat, or RMF. Human adipose tissue is processed into small pellets and cultured in suspension, allowing cells to reorganize and differentiate without extensive manipulation.
Using this method, the researchers generated organoids representing all three germ layers: mesoderm, endoderm, and ectoderm.
This means a single tissue source could theoretically produce a wide range of organ types.
One of the most striking results came from the creation of humanized bone marrow organoids.
When RMF pellets were implanted into immunodeficient mice, they underwent endochondral ossification and formed bone-like structures complete with vascular and endosteal niches.

Abstract -- Rapid and effective bleeding control remains a clinical priority, particularly for deep or irregular wounds where conventional dressings are inadequate. Here, an ionically responsive, powder-based hemostatic system (AGCL) composed of alginate, gellan gum, chitosan, and a glutaraldehyde crosslinker is presented. Upon contact with calcium ions in blood, AGCL rapidly forms an adhesive hydrogel network within ≈1 s, enabling ultrafast gelation and a high blood uptake ratio (≈725%). The powder exhibits strong bioadhesion (>40 kPa), excellent sealing under mixed-mode loading, and robust storage stability for up to 24 months under ambient conditions. In vitro assays confirm minimal hemolysis (<3%), high cytocompatibility, and greater than 99% antibacterial efficacy. In various bleeding models, AGCL significantly reduced blood loss and time to hemostasis compared to TachoSil, a clinical benchmark. Furthermore, AGCL accelerated re-epithelialization, angiogenesis, and collagen deposition in murine skin and liver wound models, supporting high-quality tissue regeneration without systemic toxicity. These results demonstrate that AGCL integrates rapid coagulation, strong adhesion, long-term biostability, and regenerative capacity in a single platform. Its powder format offers distinct advantages in versatility, ease of application, and storability, making it a promising candidate for next-generation topical hemostats in trauma care, surgery, and emergency medicine.

A new approach mimics photosynthesis by storing sunlight first and producing hydrogen later in complete darkness... The research team built their system from two inexpensive, off-the-shelf materials. The first is graphitic carbon nitride, a yellow powder that can absorb visible light and act as a photocatalyst.
The second is ammonium metatungstate, a cluster of tungsten and oxygen atoms that can accept and hold multiple electrons, much like a tiny rechargeable battery. The process happens in water with a small amount of methanol added. Methanol plays a crucial role by soaking up the “positive charges” created when light hits the carbon nitride.  This prevents electrons from quickly recombining and disappearing, allowing them to be stored instead. As a result, the system does not split pure water and needs methanol as a sacrificial helper. When the carbon nitride is illuminated with blue light, it generates pairs of electrons and holes. The electrons quickly jump into nearby tungsten clusters. As more electrons accumulate, the solution visibly changes color from pale yellow to deep blue — a clear sign that tungsten atoms are being reduced from a +6 to a +5 charge state and that solar energy is now chemically stored...

Solar Energy Storage in Polyoxometalate for On-Demand Hydrogen Transportation and Evolution

Widespread application of solar-driven hydrogen production is hindered by critical limitations: the inherent safety risks of high-pressure H2 storage/transport, and the intermittent nature of solar energy. To address these challenges, we develop a solar energy storage and on-demand hydrogen production system by synergistically integrating commercial polyoxometalate (NH4)6H2W12O40 (W12) with graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4). This system demonstrates remarkable efficiency in storing solar energy as electrons within W12 during illumination. These stored electrons can be released on demand in the dark through Pt/C activation to produce H2, achieving a highly efficient hydrogen evolution rate of 3220 µmol g−1 h−1 under dark photocatalytic conditions. Notably, the system maintains robust performance under real-world conditions, delivering an outdoor hydrogen evolution rate of 954 µmol g−1 h−1 under natural sunlight irradiation. Detailed analysis reveals an optimized electron storage-release pathway, facilitated by the favorable alignment between the reduction potential of W12 and the band structure of g-C3N4, as well as the electrostatic self-assembly driven by oppositely charged g-C3N4 and W12. In this system, solar energy is facilely stored as stabilized electrons within the POM-semiconductor suspension, which can then be efficiently transported to light-deficient environments and controllably released for on-demand hydrogen evolution.

Abstract --
Intercellular mitochondrial transfer, the spontaneous exchange of mitochondria between cells, is a recently described phenomenon crucial for cellular repair, regeneration, and disease management. Enhancing this natural process holds promise for developing novel therapies targeting diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. Here, we introduce a nanomaterial-based approach employing molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoflowers with atomic-scale vacancies to stimulate mitochondrial biogenesis in cells to make them mitochondrial biofactories. Upon cellular uptake, these nanoflowers result in a two-fold increase in mitochondrial mass and enhancing mitochondrial transfer to recipient cells by several-fold. This enhanced efficiency of transfer significantly improves mitochondrial respiratory capacity and adenosine triphosphate production in recipient cells under physiological conditions. In cellular models of mitochondrial and cellular damage, MoS2 enhanced mitochondrial transfer achieved remarkable restoration of cell function. This proof-of-concept study demonstrates that nanomaterial-boosted intercellular mitochondrial transfer can enhance cell survivability and function under diseased conditions, offering a promising strategy for treating mitochondrial dysfunction-related diseases...

Flash Joule heating has been used as a versatile solid-state synthesis method in the production of a wide range of products, including organic, inorganic, and ceramic products. Conventional flash Joule heating systems are large and customized, presenting significant barriers in the cost of assembly, the expertise needed to operate, and attaining uniformity of results between different systems. Even laboratory-scale flash Joule heating systems struggle to operate above 10-gram capacity, and they suffer poor temperature controllability. We present here the use of commercial off-the-shelf arc welders as a superior alternative to standard flash Joule heating systems due to their low cost ($120), ease of use, compact size, high temperature controllability, and tunability. We demonstrate gram-scale synthesis of a variety of organic and ceramic species using these systems. With the addition of a new reactor configuration for only $260, we scale up synthesis of these products to record rates for laboratory scale, achieving a production rate of 3 kg/h for graphene, and kg/day production rates for SiC, carbon nanotubes, SnSe2, and SnS¬2.

Recently, some new information and inside coverage of the rather mysterious ex-weapons scientist Guy Obolensky and his frequency or plasmoid healing chamber, variously named The Faser chamber, Teslatron, Tesla Healing Machine, or Plasmoid Infusion Chamber was released.
This chamber is of course based on the same technology as Nikola Tesla’s healing chamber of the same names.
Malcolm Bendall has made some pretty wild statements about his Plasmoid Infusion in the past, and people have either been fascinated, often asking how they could infuse themselves or alternatively thought the whole thing was a bit sci fi and mad to be real.
The new articles that have recently been released on medium by the account Adam, tell the story of anothers experience in the chamber and he actually provides some incredible photographs of the chamber when active, which were taken for the film they were there to document for “Eternal Youth” - and for which the photographer supposedly  sacrificed several iPhones to the machines arcing plasma tendrils, attempting to capture.

Abstract
-- Anode-free lithium metal batteries (LMBs) represent a promising avenue for maximizing energy density by eliminating excess lithium (Li), yet their practical implementation is impeded by limited Li reversibility and pronounced interfacial instability. Herein, a synergistic coupling strategy is reported that integrates a highly reversible host (RH) with a rationally designed, carbonate-rich electrolyte (DEL) to concurrently address these fundamental challenges. The RH spontaneously induces the formation of a robust Li2O- and Li3N-rich solid electrolyte interphase via electron transfer, which effectively accommodates Li volume changes and suppresses dendritic growth. Complementarily, DEL, composed of commercially available salts, solvents, and additives, establishes stable electrode-electrolyte interphases at both electrodes. Coin-type anode-free full cells employing the RH-DEL configuration achieve an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.6% and 81.9% capacity retention after 100 cycles at 4.6 mAh cm−2 and 2.3 mA cm−2. Stacked pouch-type full cells further deliver a record volumetric energy density of 1270 Wh L−1 (including packaging) under lean electrolyte (E/C = 2.5 g Ah−1) and a low stack pressure (≈20 kPa). This synergistic approach delineates a practical pathway toward high-energy, long-life anode-free LMBs for advanced energy storage systems.
